How to Remove Stains on the Mattress Effectively

Your mattress is exposed to sweat, drool, shed skin, body oils, and other fluids on a daily basis. Add that to the dust, dirt, and other allergens that settle on its surface and the unfortunate stains that they are sometimes subjected to.

The good news? Getting rid of stains is as easy as engaging professional mattress cleaning services in Singapore. Plus, you can also take the extra effort by understanding the ways you can try to remove stains yourself and prevent them from causing permanent damage.

How to Clean Stains on the Mattress

Your best protection against permanent stains is to tackle the stain while it’s fresh and before it becomes ingrained deep in the fibres: Dab up as much of the liquid as possible using a cloth or sponge. Afterwards, gently mist the stained area with water. Then, spray a solution of 3% hydrogen peroxide, 3 tablespoons of baking soda, and a few drops of dishwashing liquid and gently brush the stain until it fades. You may have to repeat the procedure more than once to get visible results.

In addition to that, you can also try a few techniques to remove old stains on your mattress—sweat, blood, drool, urine, etc.—using the following household ingredients:

  • Baking soda
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Dishwashing liquid
  • Vinegar
  • Lemon juice and salt
  • Cornstarch

How you would clean your mattress and use these ingredients largely depends on the stain you are dealing with. But, as a starter, here’s a guide on how to get blood stains out of your upholstery.

Professional Mattress Cleaning by Clean Care

No matter how well you think you’re maintaining your mattress, sooner or later, you would have to call in professional help.

As a provider of mattress cleaning services in Singapore, we recommend getting your mattress cleaned at least once or twice a year. Like any other upholstery in your home, your mattress acquires all sorts of stains which, when ignored, can leave a permanent mark on the mattress and worse, may even give off a bad odour.

In addition to that, we also advise you to take extra effort in taking care of your mattress in between cleanings:

  • Change sheets at least every two weeks and wash them using the hottest water temperature possible to kill any germs, bacteria, and viruses lingering.
  • Vacuum the surface of your mattress to remove any loose debris—dust, dirt, and shed skin.
  • Deodorise your mattress by sprinkling a layer of baking soda on the surface and let it sit for at least 30 minutes before vacuuming.

Your mattress is an expensive purchase that should last you at least 15 years when you give it the attention it deserves. While professional cleaning may seem like an additional expense, it should help you make the most out of your investment by prolonging the life of your mattress.

Book an appointment with us today at Clean Care to get your mattress professionally cleaned.
